I met Ester during a developmental studies field course in Tanzania. She was the guide during my stay with the Maasai. Ester was incredibly friendly and cheerful. At that moment she was studying to become a teacher, which could provide her with a good job and financial stability. Since then we kept in touch.

About two years ago something terrible happened. Her dad died and briefly thereafter also her husband. Because of this she no longer had a source of income, and she had to stop with her studies. To provide for her two-year-old daughter Aislin and herself she had to start baking and selling corn on the street.

When I heard from other friends in Tanzania that Ester had a difficult time, I started helping her financially. Now she is studying again and she is able to buy healthy food for her daughter and herself. Ester has two years of studying left. Until that time she needs about three thousand euros. When she has finished her studies she can work as a teacher and become independent.
